While Prithvi Shaw had an outside chance of flying to England to participate in the Test series, it would no longer be the case now. Shubman Gill’s stress-related injury had sparked rumours on Prithvi Shaw being his replacement. However, if trusted sources are to be believed, the right-handed batsman wants to concentrate on his white-ball game.
Prithvi Shaw has not donned the whites for India since the first Test of the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy. Australia’s bowling attack exposed the right-handed batsman’s weaknesses against the ball coming in brutally. As a result, he could not find a place for the next three games and Shubman Gill replaced him for the same and the four Tests at home against England too.
But even though Shaw has improved drastically, he is not likely to don the whites for India anytime soon. Instead, he remains in line to play all six games in Sri Lanka and start the ODI series, batting at the top order with Shikhar Dhawan. Shaw had already asserted in his authority by topping the run-scoring charts in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and his exploits in IPL 2021.
Prithvi Shaw really needs to pull up his socks if he fancies himself in Tests: BCCI Sources
BCCI sources claimed that Prithvi Shaw needs to pull up his socks if he fancies himself in Tests as he is yet to reach his potential, based on his opportunities. Moreover, the youngster aims to cement his spot for the T20 World Cup later this year in the UAE; hence, he wants to focus on his white-ball game.
“He really needs to pull up his socks if he fancies himself in Tests. The opportunities fo far, his own commitment to the format – they’ve all not matched up to the potential he’s shown. There’s work to do. He doesn’t want to warm the bench in England,” the sources claimed as per Times of India.
