A dramatic scene unfolded at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Tuesday, October 7, during a three-day practice match between Maharashtra and Mumbai. The heated moment involving Maharashtra’s star opener Prithvi Shaw and Mumbai’s young talent Musheer Khan left everyone stunned.
The drama began after Prithvi Shaw’s stunning innings came to an end. The Maharashtra opener had set the MCA Stadium ablaze with a breathtaking 181 off 220 balls, smashing 21 boundaries and three towering sixes.
He also stitched a 305-run partnership with Arshin Kulkarni, who also played a blistering knock of 186 off 140 balls to power Maharashtra to a commanding position.
Prithvi Shaw’s angry outburst against Musheer Khan sparks controversy
In the 74th over, Prithvi Shaw was caught at square leg by Irfan Umair off Musheer Khan’s bowling while trying to push for another big shot. As the former Mumbai batter began to walk back, Musheer reportedly made a remark that didn’t sit well with the Maharashtra batter.

Musheer sledged Prithvi Shaw with a “Thank you” remark, and he turned around in anger, swinging his bat in frustration toward the Mumbai bowler. Players and umpires rushed in to diffuse the tension, and one of the on-field umpires was seen escorting Shaw away from the Mumbai players to prevent the situation from getting worse at the MCA Stadium.
The incident instantly went viral. Now, both the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) have taken the matter seriously. The officials from both state associations have begun investigating the incident to determine exactly what led to the heated moment and whether disciplinary action is needed.
Prithvi Shaw apologizes to Musheer Khan amidst the investigation
Amidst this, Prithvi Shaw has reportedly apologized to Musheer Khan for his actions. As reported by Mumbai Mirror and Times of India journalists, Shaw realized his mistake and apologized to Musheer on Thursday, October 9, following their spat in Pune.

However, the Mumbai Cricket Association and Maharashtra Cricket Association have not yet made any statement regarding the episode. Notably, Musheer and Shaw were once Mumbai teammates, and the latter’s brother, Sarfaraz Khan, shares a great bond with the out-of-favor India batter.
Prithvi Shaw named in Maharashtra squad for Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season
Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw has been named in the Maharashtra squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season after he ended his long stint with Mumbai earlier this year. Shaw decided to move on from Mumbai after being left out of the squad last season.
The switch to Maharashtra gives him a fresh start and a chance to rebuild his domestic career. Shaw, who is known for his aggressive batting style and natural stroke play, has already been a big name in the domestic arena.

In 58 first-class matches and 102 innings, he has scored 4,556 runs at an average of 46.02 and an impressive strike rate of 82.86. He also has 13 centuries and 18 half-centuries to his name so far.
The Maharashtra side will be led by the experienced Ankit Bawane. Ankit Bawane has been one of the most consistent batters in domestic cricket, with 8,289 runs in 123 first-class matches at an average of over 51.
Maharashtra will begin its Ranji Trophy campaign against Kerala on October 15, though the venue for the match hasn’t been finalized yet.
