The 25-year-old out-of-favor opening batsman Prithvi Shaw is set to make his debut for Team Maharashtra in the upcoming All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament.

Prithvi Shaw has joined forces with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, in the Maharashtra squad for the competition.

His Mumbai exit was on cards for a long time as the selectors were not happy with the performance and fitness of Prithvi Shaw and dropped him from the Ranji Trophy squad, and didn't consider him for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

They gave instructions to Shaw to work on his fitness, and when he showed no improvements, the decision was made to keep him away from the team.

Meanwhile, on Monday, July 7, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) officially confirmed the inclusion of the batter in the Maharashtra Cricket Team.

In a statement, the right-handed batter expressed delight over joining Maharashtra and was hopeful of growth as a cricketer with the new team while playing alongside the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Rajneesh Gurbani, and others.

Prithvi Shaw named in 17-member Maharashtra squad

On Thursday, August 14, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) announced a 17-man squad for the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament.

Shaw has been named in the squad, which will be led by Ankit Bawane. The squad also features Ruturaj Gaikwad, Siddhesh Veer, Sachin Dhas, Arshin Kulkarni, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, and others.

Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Saurabh Nawale will leave the squad after playing one game and will link up with the West Zone squad in Bengaluru for the Duleep Trophy.

Meanwhile, Shaw would look to relaunch his career and deliver an impressive performance in his first assignment with Team Maharashtra.

Shaw was once regarded as the next big thing in Indian cricket, but is currently nowhere near the senior team and doesn't even have an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract. The stint with Maharashtra gives the batter a chance to finally get back on the selection radar.
