Prithvi Shaw to be jailed in the middle of IPL 2024? Mumbai court issues a strict order against the Delhi batsman

The Prithvi Shaw vs Sapna Gill case has taken a fresh start as a local Mumbai Court directed Mumbai Police to conduct a probe into the matter and submit a report by June 19. The court issued the order after social media influencer Sapna Gill filed a complaint in the court against cricketer Prithvi Shaw on the charges of molestation.

The case related to a scuffle between Sapna Gill and Prithvi Shaw in a pub in the Andheri area of Mumbai City last year in February. Sapna Gill was arrested for attacking Shaw’s car with a baseball bat. Later, she filed molestation charges against the Delhi Capitals opener.

Shaw is currently busy with IPL 2024. He is a member of the Delhi Capitals in the tournament. The right-handed batter has played 2 games for DC out of 3 in IPL 2024. He scored a decent knock of 43 against Chennai Super Kings. In the previous match vs Kolkata Knight Riders, the DC opener got out for 10 runs.

Sapna Gill files molestation complaint against Prithvi Shaw

Sapna Gill has filed a complaint against Prithvi Shaw and his friend Ashish Yadav over molestation charges. She has filed FIR under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code.

Additional metropolitan magistrate SC Tayde has asked the Mumbai Police to probe the matter and submit a report by June 19. Interestingly, the Mumbai Police didn’t find Shaw guilty in the earlier investigation.

A video of Sapna Gill and his friend Shobit Thakur went viral on social media last year, in which she was seen attacking the Mumbai cricketer’s car with a baseball bat. She also broke the car’s windscreen. Acting on the cricketer’s complaint, Mumbai Police arrested Sapna Gill and Shobit Thakur for the act.

Police didn’t find molestation claims true in previous investigation

Later, police also investigated Gill’s charges of molestation against Shaw. In their earlier report, police informed the court they checked the CCTV footage of the Andheri hotel. In the video, Sapna Gill and Shobit Thakur were seen drunk and dancing. As Thakur and Gill tried to click selfies with Prithvi Shaw, the latter declined their request.

There were no instances of Sapna Gill getting molested by someone. Police also spoke to eye-witnesses present at the hotel at the time of the incident. They too rejected witnessing any molestation. When the police checked CCTV footage of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, they saw footage of Sapna Gill and Shobit Thakur following Shaw’s car.

The police also talked to a CRPF official, who was present at the time of the event. According to him, Sapna Gill attacked Prithvi Shaw’s car with a baseball bat. The official saw a baseball bat in her hand and a broken windscreen.

Notably, the official also said that his friend Shobit took the baseball bat away from Gill’s hand after seeing the police. Following the investigation and the cricketer’s complaint, police arrested Sapna Gill and Shobit Thakur in the matter.
