Kolkata Knight Riders’ co-owner Juhi Chawla has come out in support of his team for the manner in which they came back against Chennai Super Kings’ in their last fixture albeit in a losing cause.

Chasing 221 to win, Kolkata Knight Riders looked down and out after they lost the cream of their batting unit for a mere 31 runs. Deepak Chahar proved to be the wrecker-in-chief as the right-arm swing bowler dismissed the opening duo of Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana before accounting for KKR’s skipper Eoin Morgan and pinch-hitter Sunil Narine in his 3rd over.

And, when Lungisani Ngidi got rid of the dangerous-looking Rahul Tripathi with extra bounce, it looked like a hammering was on the cards for the two-time champions.

However, Andre Russell had different ideas. Dre Russ, who had a poor IPL campaign last year, rolled back the clock to 2019 as he swatted the Chennai Super Kings attack to all corners of the Wankhede Stadium in what was a ruthless display of power-hitting.

Russell smashed a total of three fours and six sixes during his 22-ball 54 and he along with Dinesh Karthik, who himself scored a breezy 24-ball 40, racked up a total of 81 runs in just six overs to give Kolkata Knight Riders a glimmer of hope.

Russell was eventually dismissed by Sam Curran, who bowled him round his legs, while Dinesh Karthik too perished to a slower delivery by Lungi Ngidi.

But, KKR, through Pat Cummins kept fighting. Cummins, who had earlier conceded more than 50 runs in his spell of four overs, redeemed himself with a brilliant knock of 66 not-out off just 34 deliveries.

KKR eventually lost the game by 18 runs but they won the heart of millions of fans including their co-owner in Juhi Chawla, who took to her official Twitter account where she wrote-

”Proud of our team KKR .. after such a shaky start where we looked like we had collapsed..!.!!!! our boys played strong and hard , and brought it to a close match ..!! Thank you Russell, DK, Pat ..!!!”
