The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly suggested a timeframe for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL). The Pakistan Cricket Board plans to host the tournament in April-May 2025, coinciding with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which led to objections from several PSL franchises, as per Cricket Pakistan.

The Pakistan board typically hosts the Pakistan Super League between January and March each year. However, next year's tournament might require a different timeframe due to the national team's busy schedule. Additionally, the evolution of other franchise leagues has posed challenges to the board.

The SA20 and ILT20 leagues offer players better employment opportunities with higher salaries, making South Africa and the UAE more attractive destinations than Pakistan. The rise of these T20 leagues has resulted in a shorter window, from mid-February to mid-March, for the PSL schedule.

Pakistan Cricket Board Proposes Possible Window For Pakistan Super League 2025

During a meeting in Lahore on Saturday, COO Salman Naseer, senior PCB officials, team owners, and others discussed potential dates for the upcoming tournament. They suggested a timeframe from early April to mid-May. However, several team owners expressed concerns about the proposed schedule.

Pakistan will tour South Africa for a multi-format series, concluding in January 2025. They will then travel to New Zealand for a limited-overs series. The PCB is set to host an ODI tri-series featuring New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan in February, according to their Future Tours Programme (FTP).

Pakistan is slated to host the Champions Trophy 2025 in February and March next year. The tournaments are presenting challenges for the traditional timing of the PSL.

Pakistan Cricket Board Plans To Allow All Franchises To Sign Marquee Player

The PCB plans to allow all franchises to sign a marquee player for the upcoming tournament, with signings expected in the coming months. Additionally, financial assistance will be provided to franchises for this purpose. However, there are concerns that scheduling the PSL alongside the IPL might hinder franchisees' ability to attract top foreign cricketers.

The meeting addressed various other important matters. The working group intends to present its recommendations to the PSL Governing Council, which will meet under the leadership of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in the coming days.
