Former Pakistan star all-rounder Shahid Afridi will miss the remaining matches of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to a back injury. The sixth season of the PSL will resume next month in the UAE after it suffered a postponement in March due to a cluster of COVID-19 positive cases within the bubble. Asif Afridi will take Shahid Afridi’s spot at the Multan Sultans for the remainder of the tournament.

Shahid Afridi represented the Multan Sultans in four out of its five league matches in Karachi; however, he suffered a poor outing. The right-handed batsman managed only three runs in two innings and his leg-spin yielded two wickets in 15 overs. Afridi experienced pain in his lower back while training in Karachi, with the doctor prescribing him a period of total rest.

Shahid Afridi said in a statement that the doctor advised him complete rest and could not travel with the Multan Sultans to the UAE. The 41-year old feels disappointed not to be able to accompany the outfit and wishes Multan to capture the trophy. Afridi has represented Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi apart from Multan in the PSL and has 44 wickets in 50 games and has 465 runs.

“Unfortunately, I have been advised to rest and can no longer accompany my team Multan Sultans. I am disappointed that I would be sitting out of the tournament, but my best wishes, support and prayers are with the team to take the trophy,” Afridi said as quoted by India Today.
