In a fiery outburst, Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has launched a scathing attack on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), raising serious concerns about the future of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Ali Tareen has slammed the PCB for competing with the Indian Premier League (IPL). Questioning the Pakistan Super League’s scheduling and format, Tareen has pointed fingers at the PCB’s failure to secure the league’s global appeal amid the growing dominance of the IPL.
He even went on to suggest that the PSL may soon lose its biggest international stars if the league continues to overlap with the IPL window.

However, Tarren has not taken anyone’s name but warned the PCB over the growing trend of top overseas players turning their backs on the PSL in favor of richer IPL contracts.
He highlighted how legends like Darren Sammy, Shane Watson, and Rilee Rossouw once lit up the PSL, but now he is not sure whether the PCB will be able to attract the big names for the next season.
Ali Tareen posted, X: “Over the past 10 years, the PSL has been home to some iconic stars who have helped build our league. Players like Darren Sammy, Shane Watson, Colin Munro, Rilee Rossouw, and many more. But we need to ask ourselves, can we keep attracting players of this caliber for the next decade if we keep clashing with the IPL window? Or will we keep losing our top performers to the IPL after a season or two?”

We need to ditch the draft model for an auction: Ali Tareen
The Multan Sultans owner has also boldly suggested a complete overhaul, calling for the complete overhaul of the draft model and demanding an auction system for the Pakistan Super League and shifting the tournament back to a winter schedule from the next season.
He demanded the PCB take urgent action to revive the PSL’s international standard before it’s too late.
Tareen signed off by saying, “Although we were supportive of the clash, I’m not really feeling this window. Especially with the day games in this heat. Perhaps a rethink is needed. I think we need to move back to the winter and ditch the draft model for an auction.”
