Punjab Kings (PBKS) and its co-owner Preity Zinta have issued a warning on the social media platform ‘X’ regarding some fake narratives and claims across social media platforms.

In recent times, when PBKS has lost four consecutive matches in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, there have been some shocking claims made by a few so-called ‘sports journalists’ on the internet. The franchise and the co-owner have suggested that the cricket fans avoid those claims that have no ground.

Key Points

  • Punjab Kings and co-owner Preity Zinta issued strong statements against fake narratives on social media.
  • PBKS warned fans and media personalities against spreading unverified information for engagement.
  • The controversy comes amid Punjab Kings’ four-match losing streak in IPL 2026.

Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta issues an official statement

On May 13, Preity Zinta stated through a social media post that healthy debate around the game is welcome. But there is a difference between criticism and calculated misinformation. Because of fake narratives, an image of a person or a team can be damaged. She further claims that this kind of fake narrative should not be taken lightly.

“There’s a difference between criticism & calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not & will not be taken lightly. I urge everyone, including verified voices & media professionals, to exercise responsibility before amplifying unverified information,” Preity Zinta said.

The franchise also releases an official statement

The franchise, in one of its latest social media posts, echoed the same. PBKS suggests that all fans verify the facts before blindly trusting them. In strong words, the franchise claims that some of the social media posts are to attract cheap engagements.

“Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction. PBKS stated on May 13, a day after their match against the Delhi Capitals.

A few days ago, during an online interaction, Arshdeep Singh, Team India and Punjab Kings star, made some explosive claims. He claimed that there were a lot of well-known persons, including some of the commentators and cricket experts, who were not happy to see the team at the top of the points table.

“If you heard the commentators, they were not happy when we were claiming back-to-back wins. There are many people out there who don’t want to see us in a good position. As we had to suffer a defeat in our last match, they got a chance to celebrate and criticize us,” Arshdeep Singh said it before.

In that discussion, Yuzvendra Chahal, another Punjab Kings star, was there and nodded his head in agreement to Arshdeep’s claims.

Punjab Kings are currently on a losing streak

At the beginning of the tournament, Punjab Kings, the runner-up of the IPL 2025 season, were in form. For a significant amount of time, Punjab was at the top of the points table. But now, they are located at the 4th spot of the ranks as they got defeated in 4 back-to-back games.

The next match of PBKS will be against the Mumbai Indians on April 14 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
