The 26-year-old Rajasthan leg-spinner, Rahul Chahar, got a good deal at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction on Tuesday, December 16.
Rahul Chahar was roped in by the Chennai Super Kings for INR 5.20 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini auction, which is currently underway at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Rahul Chahar's IPL journey in numbers
The leg-spinner made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2017 for the Rising Pune Supergiant and picked up two wickets in three matches.
Then, he moved to the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the next three seasons and had the best time of his life. Chahar bagged 13, 15, and 13 wickets for the 5-time champions, which helped him make his way into the Indian team.
In IPL 2022, 2023, and 2024, the leg-spinner was with the Punjab Kings and bagged 14, 8, and 10 wickets. His most recent stint in IPL came with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he played just one game.
Rajasthan is my home team, so either CSK or RR would work for me - Rahul Chahar
In an interview with Crictracker ahead of the 2026 auction, when Rahul Chahar was asked which team he would like to join, the leg-spinner responded by naming Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
He labelled his good performance at Chepauk and his home side being Rajasthan as the reason behind his desire to join one of those teams.
"I have a decent bowling record at Chepauk, and CSK would suit me, considering how the ball tends to move there. Rajasthan is my home team, so either CSK or RR would work for me."
Notably, Chahar has picked up 14 wickets in nine matches at Chepauk at an average of 15.92 and an economy of 6.19.
