Former Indian Aakash Chopra has been awestruck by Rahul Chahar’s performances in the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka. India completed their tour of Sri Lanka by winning the ODI series, followed by losing the T20I leg as the COVID-19 outbreak forced the tourists to field a depleted outfit. Meanwhile, Rahul Chahar’s bowling impressed Aakash Chopra the most.

Though team India lost the T20I series, Rahul Chahar left no stone unturned to trouble the Sri Lankan batsmen. The young leg-spinner ended the three-match rubber with four wickets from two games at 10.50. Chahar had figures of 4-0-15-3 in the final T20I and had 10-0-54-3 in the last ODI. He seems to have made an irrefutable case for the T20 World Cup.

Aakash Chopra observed that since Yuzvendra Chahal is the number one spin option, Rahul Chahar does not play regularly. The 43-year old said Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja are also other spin options, while Varun Chakravarthy is also trying to make a name for himself. However, Aakash believes Chahar has made the most of his limited opportunities so far.

“Rahul Chahar doesn’t not play regularly in the Team India squad since Yuzvendra Chahal is the No. 1 leg-spinner. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are also other spin options Team India have. Varun Chakravarthy is also trying to make a name as a mystery spinner. But Chahar has grabbed every opportunity that has come his way to play for Team India,” Aakash told in his Youtube channel.

Aakash Chopra further stated Rahul Chahar has plenty of confidence, generating pace through the air and letting the ball zip past the batsmen after pitching. The cricketer-turned-commentator believes Rahul’s variations are indeed mysterious, resembling Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan. Chopra also believes an excellent IPL 2021 should prompt the selectors to pick him alongside Yuzvendra Chahal for the T20 World Cup.

Chahar bowls with a lot of confidence and is incisive and accurate. He bowls quick through the air and the ball often zips past the batsman on pitching. From his action, it seems like he is bowling a googly when he is actually delivering a leg-spinner. He has got this mystery about him and variations, which remind me a little about Rashid Khan. If he does well in the IPL, Team India will be tempted to play him in the T20 World Cup along with Chahal,” he added.
