Rahul Dravid issues an official statement on Gautam Gambhir's coaching after the latter's Test debut

Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid extended his best wishes to Gautam Gambhir after his Test debut as head coach of the national team. Rahul Dravid also highlighted Gautam Gambhir's experience as both a player and a coach and added his presence would be beneficial for the Indian team.

India is taking on Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Men in Blue are playing Test cricket after six months. The series is part of the World Test Championship (WTC), and India is aiming to maintain their position at the top of the table.

It also marks Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as India's head coach in the longest format. Gambhir succeeded Rahul Dravid after his tenure ended following India's T20 World Cup victory. The former opener led the team to a 3-0 win over Sri Lanka in T20Is, but they were beaten 0-2 in the ODI series.

Gautam Gambhir Has Got A Lot Of Experience - Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid said that Gautam Gambhir's leadership would benefit the Indian team in the coming years. Dravid stated that everyone brings their unique experiences to the team and added that Gambhir's experience will be invaluable.

"He (Gambhir) has got a lot of experience, as a player also he has played a lot, he obviously coached quite a bit. I am sure he will be great," said Dravid, during a media interaction at the launch event of 'Roombr,' a Digital Classroom provider.

"In any situation, everyone brings his own experience and knowledge to the table. I am sure the team will benefit from everything that Gautam brings to them with his team," he added.

During Rahul Dravid's tenure as head coach, the Indian cricket team reached the finals of both the ODI World Cup 2023 and the World Test Championship 2023. However, they were defeated by Australia in both finals.

Dravid sent a heartfelt audio message before Gautam Gambhir began his tenure as India's head coach. Dravid highlighted that Gambhir would carry that passion into his new role. He concluded by wishing Gambhir success in leading the team to new heights.

"I know how dedicated and passionate you are about Indian cricket, and I'm sure you will bring all these qualities to this new job," he said.

"From one Indian cricket coach to another, one last thing. In the most heated of times, exhale, take a step back, and even if it's difficult for you, crack a smile. Whatever else happens, that will shock people. I wish you the very best Gautam and I am sure you will take the Indian team to even greater heights," concluded Dravid.

The Indian team has a busy schedule ahead, with ten Test matches lined up over the next four months. India began the Test season with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. They will next play three Test matches against New Zealand at home, followed by a five-match series in Australia.
