BCCI President Roger Binny has praised India head coach Rahul Dravid after he helped the team win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He also shared his opinions about picking Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach.
Notably, ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was the last tournament of Rahul Dravid as head coach. The former India skipper had submitted his resignation from his post of head coach after two terms of two years. Dravid became the India head coach in November 2021 after India’s humiliating performance in ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
However, Dravid and Rohit Sharma ultimately brought the crucial ICC title for India for which they had been desperate since 2013; when MS Dhoni led India to the Champions Trophy final. India failed to win by a small margin almost seven months back after losing the final to Australia in the ICC ODI World Cup 2024.

Gautam Gambhir is the experience that India needs
After Rahul Dravid’s ouster, there are reports that Gautam Gambhir might be named as India’s new head coach. Speaking about the same, BCCI President Roger Binny said Gambhir has a lot of experience that India needs.
"Gautam Gambhir has got a lot of experience and if he takes the job it's definitely going to be a good thing for Indian cricket. He is experienced that's what India needs. India needs a coach who played the game, and he has played in all three formats of the game," he said.
Binny also termed Rahul Dravid as a fantastic coach and thanked him for his tremendous support to the Indian team.
"Rahul as a cricketer has been fantastic. His contribution to the team has been tremendous because of the experience he brought to the table ... he really did a fantastic job with them. It's just unfortunate that he lost a few games, he lost the last World Cup," Binny further said.
Difficult to replace Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli- Roger Binny
Notably, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20I format after winning the World Cup. Speaking about the same, Binny said it would be difficult to replace them.
"They have been outstanding. It is going to be very difficult to replace them immediately...it is going to be a great loss at the moment. Hopefully, we should get some young cricketers, the IPL is full of talent. It's not going to be easy but we can try and get some young cricketers to do what they have done," the former Indian player further said.
Gautam Gambhir has been seen as a powerful option for the Indian Team as head coach after his success with Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. Gambhir leads Kolkata Knight Riders to the trophy as a mentor.
Notably, he also led the team to two titles in 2012 and 2014 and after his comeback as a leader-cum-mentor, KKR clinched the title once again and was the most dominating side in the tournament.
