Former Team India cricket manager Lalchand Rajput talked about the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the team. He is positive that the new coach of the team will inspire the Men in Blue, just as he did with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
India National Cricket Team got a new head coach after the T20 World Cup 2024. Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of the team in all three formats of the game. This comes after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended after India won the tournament.
Gautam Gambhir, who is touted as the fiercest character, will be taking over the role of Team India from the Sri Lanka tour. The Men in Blue will be playing the three-match T20I series and the three-match ODI series starting from the 27th of July at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.
Gautam Gambhir was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was the mentor of the team, and under his guidance, the franchise won the title. He changed the entire complexion of the way the team played cricket and helped them win the title.
Gautam Gambhir, who is aggressive, will now be hoping to take the India National Cricket Team to great heights. He will be taking over the role from Rahul Dravid, who won the T20 World Cup 2024, and hence expectations would be high from Gambhir as he focuses on some of the major tournaments.
Lalchand Rajput talked about the coaching style of Gautam Gambhir, saying that he is a very straightforward person. While highlighting that India's coach hates losing, he hopes that the former India skipper inculcates that among the players. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he explained:
"Every coach has got a different style of functioning. Rahul was quiet, but Gambhir is a very straightforward person; he's passionate and hates losing. He will inculcate that among the players. You saw that in the KKR team, they came from nowhere to win convincingly. Hopefully, he would inspire the Indian team in the same way."
I won't say the dressing room will be affected too much - Lalchand Rajput on Suryakumar Yadav getting captaincy ahead of Hardik Pandya
Lalchand Rajput also talked about Suryakumar Yadav getting captaincy ahead of Hardik Pandya, saying that the dressing room won't be affected and all will be dependant on how quickly Suryakumar will be able to gel with players. He explained:
"I won't say the dressing room will be affected too much. Everyone knows that captaincy is always a board's call. The main thing is how quickly Suryakumar can gel and get the team to abide by his thoughts. That will take the team forward. The coach and the captain have to work together and drive the team forward."
Gautam Gambhir, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya will be seen in action when India will take on Sri Lanka in the first T20I, starting 27th July.
