Ramandeep Singh has made a shocking statement about the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction after the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a second loss in the ongoing season. Ramandeep Singh has shockingly slammed the impact of the IPL mega-auction system.

After KKR’s heavy eight-wicket defeat against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on March 31, the 27-year-old batter has expressed his frustrations, pointing out how the auction forced his team to undergo a major overhaul despite being the defending champions.

Ramandeep Singh criticizes auction system after KKR's heavy loss to MI in the IPL 2025

After winning the title in 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders were forced to rebuild their squad, with only six players retained ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. This meant a large number of new faces were brought in, leaving the team to work hard at finding the right combinations for the ongoing season.

After KKR slipped to the rock bottom in the IPL 2025 points table, Ramandeep has stressed that the constant changes every three years due to the auction system are difficult for teams, especially after finding the right balance and winning the championship.

Mega auctions are disheartening, says Ramandeep Singh

However, the middle-order batter, who made 22 runs off 12 against the Mumbai Indians, stressed that the defending champions are focused on finding the right mix and will continue to push forward to get back to winning ways in the ongoing 2025 season.

Ramandeep Singh said at the post-match presentation, “Mega auctions are disheartening. You set a combination, and then every three years you have to change the team. But that is not an excuse; teams will try and find their winning combinations as quickly as possible, and we are trying to find our winning combination as well.”

Any team can collapse: Ramandeep Singh defends KKR

Meanwhile, it was possibly one of the worst batting performances from the KKR batting unit, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi being the top scorer with 26 runs off 16 balls, while the rest of the players couldn’t face even 20 balls against the MI.

However, Ramandeep acknowledged the batting collapse but noted that it can happen with any team, and they were just unlucky at Wankhede.

The right-handed batter added, “Any team can collapse, regardless of the situation. Obviously, that gives the lower order an opportunity, but we were unlucky tonight. We'll do our best to make sure we don't find ourselves in a similar situation going ahead in the tournament.”

Ramandeep backs Kolkata Knight Riders' attacking approach

However, Ramandeep backed KKR’s aggressive batting strategy and highlighted the importance of learning from such experiences. He signed off by saying, “We back every player in the team to follow their natural instincts. Sometimes, it doesn't work out, but it is important for us to back our players so they can give their hundred percent and play to their attacking instincts.”

Notably, the Kolkata Knight Riders will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2025 at their home ground—Eden Gardens on April 7—and they would love to reopen Pat Cummins and his team’s last year’s finals’ wounds as they are also struggling to repeat last season’s dominance this season as well.
