Former Team India spinner Ramesh Powar is likely to succeed Ajit Agarkar in the national selection committee, which is currently headed by Pragyan Ojha. Ojha is now working as the interim head of the selection committee. If the latest media reports are to be believed, then Powar is set to succeed Ajit Agarkar on BCCI's senior men's selection committee.
Ramesh Powar, the spinner from Mumbai, who played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India, was initially thought to become the chairman of BCCI's junior selection panel. But the latest Cricbuzz report, published on Saturday, October 17, told a different story.
Ramesh Powar could replace Ajit Agarkar
According to the Cricbuzz report, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) offered Ramesh Powar a crucial role, which may be a role in the selection committee.
The report also mentioned the fact that Ramesh Powar was interviewed for the junior selection panel and was considered a contender to become the head of the panel. But later, he turned his attention towards the senior selection committee, which might have changed the equation. Between a role in the senior committee, in place of Ajit Agarkar, and a possible chairman post in the junior selection panel, Ramesh Powar is likely to succeed Agarkar in the end. However, nothing is officially finalized yet.
Cricket Advisory Committee interviewed Wasim Jaffer
The interview process was being held under the observation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Four or five members were believed to be selected for the interview process after the deadline for applications to the senior panel closed on October 14.
Former Team India opener, Wasim Jaffer, is believed to be among the candidates who have faced the interview for the senior selection committee. Former Baroda players Connor Williams and Jacob Martin were the other candidates, as per the Cricbuzz report.
Dodda Ganesh could get a major role in the junior selection panel
If Power is appointed to the senior men's team selection committee, then who will be the next chairman of the junior selection panel? The report has highlighted another former national team cricketer, Dodda Ganesh. Dodda Ganesh, the former fast bowler for the Indian cricket team, can be the head of the panel.
The other four members of the junior selection panel are most likely to be from four different parts of the nation. Arun Sharma of Jammu & Kashmir, L Pawar, a former Gujarat player, a certain Bora from Assam, and Deep Bora or Pankaj Singh from the central zone could be the members of the panel. Sharma is well known in the Indian cricket circle as he played 65 first-class and 47 List A games between 1994 and 2009. If he gets a role as a member, then he could represent the North Zone.
Meanwhile, Parthiv Patel, who was heavily rumoured to replace Ajit Agarkar in the selection committee, was not among the candidates who gave the interview. He might not have applied for the position, as was assumed before.
