Rangana Herath Named Bangladesh's Spin Bowling Consultant For New Zealand Tour

Former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath has been named as the spin consultant of the Bangladesh cricket team for the New Zealand tour.

Herath’s tenure with Bangladesh ended after the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman last month. Herath and former South Africa player Ashwell Prince were appointed by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as spin bowling and batting consultants respectively.

BCB cricket operations chief Akram Khan confirmed that the former Sri Lankan spinner will be part of the team management in the New Zealand tour.

“He (Herath) is going to New Zealand and he will be a part of the team management during the two-match Test series,” Akram told Cricbuzz.

Fazle Mahmud to replace Shakib Al Hasan in Bangladesh’s Test squad

Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to tour New Zealand for a couple of Test matches, starting on January 1 in Mount Maunganui followed by the second game in Christchurch.

Last week, the Bangladesh board named an 18-member squad for the two-match Test series against the Black Caps.

Earlier veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was included in the squad but the player had demanded for a leave, to which, the board asked the player to write them officially with a reason. On Monday, Shakib was granted leave by the board.

Barisal-born bowling all-rounder Fazle Mahmud was named as Shakib’s replacement in the Test squad.

“Fazle Mahmud will be part of the Test squad as Shakib’s replacement and we have decided to include him as he is among the runs in the domestic circuit,” Akram said.

Bangladesh lost the two-match Test series to Pakistan 0-2 after they lost the second Test by an innings and eight runs at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
