"Rashid Khan Is A Gift To Afghanistan Cricket.."- Former Afghanistan Skipper
Former Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan has lauded their current skipper Rashid Khan for his invaluable contribution towards the Afghanistan team. Afghanistan National Cricket Team surprised everyone with their performance in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They defeated big names like Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka and almost defeated the mighty Australia in the World Cup. The team has shown a lot of development with some great names in the squad including Rashid Khan.
Rashid Khan has played a key role in Afghanistan’s rise in the sport. He has been around with Afghanistan Cricket since 2015 and has seen his team from the bottom of the table rise to mid-table and compete against the greats of the sport. Rashid Khan has played most of his career under the leadership of Asghar Afghan and he was one of the leaders who have played a pivotal part in Afghanistan’s development as a cricket team.
Asghar Afghan recently talked about Rashid Khan in an interview where he said that if he was the selector of the Afghanistan cricket team he would have made Rashid Khan the captain in all formats. Currently, the skipper of the Afghanistan team is Hashmatullah Shahidi. Afghan also said that Rashid Khan’s specialty is his ability to bowl six different deliveries in an over.
Asghar Afghan Considers Rashid Khan As A Role Model For Afghanistan Cricket
“He is one player who always tries to do something different every day. He is a superb learner, a great thinker, a fast learner and very hard-working. He played with me for some seven years. I have seen him grow.”
He has a lot of variations, and the capability of bowling six different deliveries in six balls. That’s what makes Rashid a special talent. That’s why he is the world’s best. If I were the selector, I would have made him the captain in all formats. He is a role model, a gift to Afghanistan cricket,” said Asghar Afghan.
Rashid Khan has indeed been a role model for many Afghanistan players including youngsters like Noor Ahmed and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman. He has been around Afghanistan Cricket for almost eight years and he is only 25 years old starting his international career at the early age of 17.
Hopefully, Rashid Khan will continue to inspire the upcoming generation of cricketers in Afghanistan and will continue to contribute towards his team’s success throughout his career. He started his career as a leg-spinner but now is considered one of the best all-rounders. Currently, he is the vice-captain of the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans.
