Rashid Latif Kicks Aside Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli To Name India's Player Of The Tournament In World Cup 2023

Former Pakistan player Rashid Latif heaped praises on Mohammed Shami after his fabulous bowling show in ICC World Cup 2023. The former Pakistan skipper feels that Mohammed Shami was a standout player for India in the tournament.

Mohammed Shami finished as the highest wicket-taker in ICC World Cup 2023. The right-arm pacer hunted 24 wickets in just 7 games at a stunning average of 10.71. He grabbed 3 five-wicket hauls in the tournament.

Mohammed Shami Was a Standout Player For India

Rashid Latif feels that Mohammed Shami was the standout player for India in ICC World Cup 2023.

“You look at the way he has come up and done so well. He was in my opinion the standout player for India in this World Cup”, he said.

Latif also said that the final loss could be a psychological thing with Indian players as they were worthy of winning the title.

“Maybe it is just a psychological thing with the Indian players. This team was worthy of winning the World Cup final but all credit to the Australians for showing once again how mentally tough and organized they are in their sports,” Latif further said.

Shami also clinched the record for the best bowling figures by an Indian player after picking a 7-wicket haul against New Zealand in the final. Shami was rested for the first four games and later inducted into the playing 11 after Hardik Pandya faced an injury.

Meanwhile, Australia defeated India by 6 wickets in the final to grab ICC World Cup 2023 title. Australia restricted India to 240 all-out and later chased down the target with a century by Travis Head (137).

It was a surprising result for many Indian fans as Team India dominated every team during the league stage. India was unbeaten during the league stage, winning 9 games out of 9 to top the points table.
