Ravi Shastri forgets MS Dhoni; ex-Indian cricketer reminds him on air during India vs Bangladesh Kanpur Test
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri had no response to ex-India cricketer Murali Kartik when the latter took the name of MS Dhoni. The incident happened during the commentary stint in the second Test between India and Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur.
During the second innings on the fifth day of the Test match, Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim was trying his best to negotiate India's spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Rahim brought out an array of sweeps short to counter the lines and lengths of Ashwin and Jadeja.
Former Bangladesh cricketer and fellow commentator Athar Ali Khan stated that Mushfiqur is a good player of sweep shots and hardly misses them. Shastri replied to Athar by saying, "Name me one keeper who doesn't sweep."

Murali Kartik reminds Ravi Shastri of MS Dhoni
However, Murali Kartik came up with a perfect reply for Ravi Shastri and immediately reminded him of the legendary MS Dhoni. Dhoni hardly played any sweep shot during his incredible career and mostly used his batting methods to deal with the spinners.
He had a strong bottom hand and looked to use his feet more against the spinners rather than trying sweep or reverse sweep. MS Dhoni also believed in using the depth of the crease to counter the high-turning pitch.
MS Dhoni was an attacking batter during his playing days. He could deal with the spinners and other bowlers in his way which were unique from the others. Despite not having a copybook technique like the other batters, Dhoni was able to score runs whenever his team wanted him to.
MS Dhoni scored 4976 runs in Test cricket at an average of 38.09. He had excellent numbers in ODi and T20I cricket. The former India captain scored over 10000 runs in ODIs at an average of more than 50.
While MS Dhoni was not a great exponent of sweep shot, many other wicketkeepers use it to great effect. Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Rizwan, Jos Buttler, Rishabh Pant, and Jonny Bairstow are some of the keepers to use the sweep shot consistently.
India decimate Bangladesh at Kanpur
Meanwhile, India dominated Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test to secure a 2-0 series win. Despite losing two days due to rain, India showed tremendous intent to get the result out of the match. After dismissing Bangladesh for 233 in the first innings, the batters scored 285-9 in just 34.4 overs.
The bowlers then joined the party as they bowled Bangladesh over for just 146 runs. Needing just 95 runs to win, India chased down the target in just 17.2 overs with seven wickets remaining. It was a thoroughly deserved performance by the home team who extended their dominance in home conditions.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was adjudged the Player of the Match for his twin fifties in the match, Jaiswal scored 72 off 51 balls in the first innings and then scored 51 off 45 balls in the second innings.
Ravichandran Ashwin was adjudged Player of the Series for his consistent performances throughout the series with both bat and ball. It was Ashwin's record-equalling 11th Player of the Series award in Tests.
