A blooper from the veteran commentator and presenter, Ravi Shastri. At the toss of the Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings (MI vs CSK) IPL 2026 match at the Wankhede Stadium, when we were about to announce the names of the captains of the two teams, he suddenly went blank.
For a fraction of a second, he had to recall the Chennai Super Kings’ captain’s name, Ruturaj Gaikwad. Soon, he recollected himself and appropriately announced Gaikwad. The moment might not have been a massive one, but cricket fans needed no time to notice it. The rest of the process at the toss summed up as it should be.

Ravi Shastri forgets Ruturaj Gaikwad's name
Hardik Pandya, the skipper of the Mumbai Indians, won the toss and elected to bowl first. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also expressed that his call would be to bowl first as well.
“We are going to bowl first. I think a lot of boxes were ticked. The intensity was there. I think we needed that kind of game where everyone comes in and chips in. Yeah, we had a perfect game. Yes, I think that was a conscious effort - that no matter what happens, intensity is in your control. I just wanted to make sure that we enjoy ourselves,” Pandya said after winning the toss.
On the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad stated, “ We would have bowled first as well, but it was a 50-50 call. It looks like a good wicket, and coming here at Wankhede Stadium, you have to bat well irrespective of whether you’re batting first or bowling first. So it is just about putting up a great show even if you’re batting first.”
Ahead of the match, the Mumbai Indians are slightly ahead of the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026 points table
Ahead of the match, neither of these two teams was in good form. It’s been hot and cool for both of the sides so far as they have failed to maintain their momentum. Ahead of the match, the Mumbai Indians were in seventh position on the points table with only 4 points as they had managed to win only a couple of matches in 6. Same as for CSK. They too have 4 points from 6 matches so far.
Because of the net run rate, MI is one step ahead of CSK. While Mumbai’s net run rate is +0.067, Chennai’s net run rate is -0.780.
Eyes will be on the CSK skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad
In this match, all eyes will be on the Super Kings captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad. The experienced batter so far has had to struggle a lot in IPL 2026.
Because of a low strike rate, he had to sustain a lot of criticism. Pressure will be on him tonight, not only because of the away fixture, but also for the team's performance and for his individual performance with the bat.
