Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri shared his take on the young players shining in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He picked four players who impressed him, saying that they would soon represent the nation at the highest level.

Ravi Shastri was left in awe of the way Chennai Super Kings’ Ayush Mhatre and Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi, as well as Punjab Kings’ aggressive opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, have set the stage on fire in the league.

While talking about Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, Ravi Shastri said that the two players smack it. Speaking to the ICC, he said:

"The two Punjab openers (Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh) as well, they give it a smack. It's as if these youngsters who have come in now, they're 14 years, 17 years of age and it's see it, hit it in the first six overs.“

Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya have played an instrumental role in the success of the Punjab Kings in the league

Both Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya have played an instrumental role in the success of the Punjab Kings in the league. The opening partners have taken their team off to a flying start in almost every game, putting pressure on the opposition right from the start.

While Prabhsimran Singh has slammed 209 runs in the IPL 2025 at a strike rate of over 168, Priyansh Arya has been in sublime form as he has slammed 254 runs from eight innings at a monstrous strike rate of 201.58, including a rollicking hundred against CSK.

I think Ayush Mhatre has got a future - Ravi Shastri

While talking about Ayush Mhatre, who replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad in the CSK XI, highlighted how the young batter batted with a fierce mindset against the Mumbai Indians. He added that the batter has a long way to go. He elaborated:

"The shots, the three shots this Ayush Mhatre played against the Mumbai Indians the other night in Mumbai. The way he took off, unbelievable shots for a 17-year-old, against a star-studded Mumbai Indians line-up to come out and express himself in that fashion caught everyone's eye.

“I think Ayush Mhatre has got a future. When I look at him, some of the shots he played, I think this guy, if he's handled properly and is with the right kind of people, he is someone who can go a long way."

Ayush Mahtre played a brilliant innings of 32 off just 15 against the Mumbai Indians and then followed it up with another similar kind of knock against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“I think the first shot he played, that would have taken everyone's breath away - Ravi Shastri on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Ravi Shastri also lavished rich praise on Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who hit six on the first ball of his career. He said that it would be important to see how the young batter responds to failures. He explained:

“I think the first shot he played, that would have taken everyone's breath away. But, he's young, so I would say just let him play a bit because it's at that age, there's bound to be failure as well. It's how he handles failure."

Vaibhav Suryavanshi played an innings of 34 off 20 against Lucknow Super Giants. He has been opening the innings for Rajasthan Royals in the last two games, and it remains to be seen if he gets a longer rope or not.
