As Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is on the verge of finishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table for the first time ever in the tournament’s history, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has called for a dramatic reshuffle of their squad for the 2026 season.
With Chennai Super Kings’ batting strategy under the scanner, Aakash Chopra has boldly suggested that the franchise must move on from some of its biggest names, and seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is on the top of his list after his ordinary 2025 season.

Ravindra Jadeja’s promotion up the batting order has come under heavy criticism, with Chopra suggesting CSK trade the Indian all-rounder or rethink his role in the squad.
The cricket analyst believes that Dewald Brevis, known for his explosive batting, is a far better fit for the No. 4 role than the makeshift experiments CSK has been running with this season.
Chopra also wants the Chennai Super Kings to release the Kiwi duo of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, saying they’ve failed to bring the spark the team desperately needs at the top. The commentator failed to understand the logic behind Jadeja’s promotion too. 4.
Aakash Chopra suggests Chennai Super Kings to drop Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway
Aakash Chopra was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo, “I would say probably trade him (Ravindra Jadeja). You have Dewald Brevis as your No. 4. Bat him at No. 4. This is a stop-gap arrangement with Devon Conway and Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel at 3."
"There is a mini auction in between; if you are releasing Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway, it's common sense that you will find somebody who can be an absolute banker and destructor at the top.”
The former Indian batter has openly asked the CSK to drop Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra and hunt for more dangerous overseas top-order batters who can turn games on their head with sheer aggression.
It will help the team to unleash the true aggressive potential of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Dewald Brevis is the best option at No.4: Aakash Chopra
Chopra further explained, “Why would you want Ruturaj Gaikwad to bat with somebody who will not go hammer and tongs? Have Urvil Patel at 3; rather have one more guy. Either get a finisher or a top-order overseas batter with Dewald Brevis apart from Noor Ahmad and Matheesha Pathirana. Sam Curran at 3 and Jadeja at 4 won't make sense.”
Notably, Ravindra Jadeja has had a poor IPL 2025 season. In 13 matches,Ravindra Jadeja has managed to score only 280 runs, including just two half-centuries. With the ball, the left-arm spinner has managed only eight wickets at an average of 38.38 this season.
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings suffered 10 defeats in a single IPL season for only the second time after the 2022 season with a six-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals on May 20. Chennai Super Kings will now travel to Ahmedabad to play their final match of the season against Gujarat Titans on May 25.
