Rajasthan Royals (RR) are demanding a high price for the Sanju Samson trade from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2026 retention. Rajasthan Royals (RR) have demanded that Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja trade Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Earlier, the RR demanded Jadeja and Dewald Brevis, but the CSK refused, even for the Indian all-rounder as well. Since Samson has a massive fan following and a South Indian connection, the five-time IPL champions are desperate to bring that brand to the side.

Also, the franchise wants a solid Indian wicketkeeper, as MS Dhoni will retire in a couple of seasons, and that’s where Sanju fits perfectly in every scenario. Given those equations, CSK is ready to sacrifice their iconic all-rounder Jadeja and English star Curran.

But when it comes to numbers, legacy, and utility, Jadeja is far better than Samson, and it remains a big question whether the Kerala player is bigger than the Indian all-rounder and that too along with Curran for the high-profile deal. Jadeja is still one of the best all-rounders in the format.
He has already won four IPL titles—one with RR—and remains a gun fielder, able to finish matches, and his wicket-taking ability is well known to all, especially on the spinning pitches. Jadeja already retired from T20I cricket last year, but he still has 3-4 years of cricket left in the fast-paced format of the game.
Rajasthan Royals tempt Ravindra Jadeja with captaincy role
Despite all this, Chennai Super Kings is ready to leave him along with Sam for Samson. It is also being said that the CSK and RR had discussions regarding the deal with these players. Earlier, Jadeja refused to leave the franchise he has been with since 2012, except for those two seasons when the team was banned.
But now the Indian all-rounder seems to be interested in the deal. A Revsportz journalist hinted that the Rajasthan Royals offered captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja and assured that they will not do what CSK did with him in 2022, when he was stripped of the captaincy in the middle of the season.

There are also notions that money can be another factor that motivates Jadeja to move to CSK. Since he retired from T20Is and he is not going to be a hot property for the next five seasons, Jadeja, who was retained by the CSK for INR 18 Crore in 2025, might agree to the deal offered by the RR.
Trade talks hit a roadblock as RR push for Matheesha Pathirana, and Ravindra Jadeja are yet to decide
However, the journalist has made it clear that the deal has not yet been finalized, and if Jadeja refuses to leave the franchise, CSK will be helpless. As of now, the CSK-RR deal is yet to be finalized, and everything depends on Jadeja’s decision.
Additionally, the Rajasthan Royals weren’t happy with the deal. RR reportedly wants Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana instead of Sam Curran, given his inconsistent performance in the league. However, CSK has no plans to release Pathirana, as he is a key part of their plans.
