Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi dismantled India’s top-order. However, Virat Kohli had a good partnership with Rishabh Pant and the former even scored a half-century and helped India score 151 runs.
Chasing the target openers Mohammad Rizwan (79*) and Babar Azam (68*) completed the 152 runs chase without losing a wicket to earn a historic victory.
We felt the hype of the World Cup after getting in UAE – Mohammad Rizwan
Speaking to Cricket Pakistan in an interview on their YouTube channel, Rizwan talked about the match against India and said that at first, it felt like a normal match but when he returned home after the Bangladesh series the reception made him realise that playing against India was not ordinary and there was much more at stake.
“Honestly, it felt like a normal match, like any other game. We felt the hype of the World Cup after getting there (in UAE). Before the match, I had an interview with Indian media and they asked if I was nervous. I told them that I don’t feel any different as of now but if and when I do, I will let you know (chuckles).”
“But the response and love we received from the fans and the country cannot be explained in words. When we got home from the Bangladesh tour after the World Cup, the reception made me realise that playing against India is not ordinary because there’s much more at stake than playing against any other opposition,” he explained.
Also, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan performed brilliantly in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 as they won all 5 games. However, they lost the semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 against eventual champions Australia.
