England left-arm pacer Reece Topley has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing five-match T20I series against the West Indies due to a knee injury. Reece Topley is set to return home from the Caribbean for treatment after suffering a knee injury during the series opener against the West Indies.

Topley suffered a knee injury while bowling in the first match of the series against the West Indies on November 9 in Barbados. The injury took place during his run-up in the fifth over of the match. He tried to continue after a short rain delay but had to leave the field after delivering just one more ball.

The pace bowler missed the second T20I against the West Indies, where the Jos Buttler-led team registered a seven-wicket victory. Topley was replaced by Jofra Archer, with uncertainty over his availability for the match. He is scheduled for a scan in London on Friday to assess the severity of the injury.

Reece Topley Ruled Out Of Reminder For England Series

However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed his absence and announced that Topley would be flying home from St Lucia. The ECB also extended their support for the bowler with a statement saying, "We're all with you, Toppers."

"We're all with you, Toppers. Reece Topley has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20I series against West Indies through injury, and is to fly home from St Lucia," the statement read.

Reece Topley Fined 15% of Match Fees for Damaging Chair

Reece Topley was fined 15% of his match fee for damaging a chair after leaving the field. The incident happened when he was heading to the England dressing room, following treatment for his injury.

He admitted to the offense and accepted the penalty proposed by the ICC's match referee, Richie Richardson, so no formal hearing was needed.

“As he left the field and climbed steps to the England dressing room, Topley picked up a chair and struck it against an iron handrail,” according to officials.

The Severity of Reece Topley's Injury Remains Unrevealed

The severity of Topley's injury has not been revealed yet. The extent of the injury will determine his availability for the India tour in early 2025 and the upcoming Champions Trophy. Topley has some time to recover, as he was not selected during the Big Bash League (BBL) draft for the 2024-25 season.

The 30-year-old has suffered many unfortunate injuries throughout his career. He twisted his ankle from slipping on a boundary sponge during a practice match before the T20 World Cup in 2022.

The pacer dislocated his shoulder during the IPL 2023 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). His 2023 ODI World Cup campaign was also cut short due to a finger injury sustained in a match against South Africa.
