The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s [BCCI] hopes of staging the ICC T20 World Cup in India seems to be dwindling given the fear of the third wave of the Wuhan virus hitting the country in September.
The 2nd wave of the deadly contagion has done unprecedented damage in the country and even as the numbers seem to be declining in the past few days, hosting a full-fledged global tournament amid fears of another wave rocking the country is a significant risk.
The case numbers are dropping and we do not think that it will take a U-turn again, and this is after we are testing everyone we can. But we are preparing ourselves for the third wave, if any, by having more jumbo field hospitals,” Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Chahal had said of the Covid situation in India and the possible third wave.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to take a call on the hosting right of the upcoming T20 World Cup during its meeting on June 01.
The BCCI will convey its decision to the ICC during the latters meeting on June 02 but the board’s case has significantly weakened following the suspension of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League after multiple Covid positive cases were reported in four different franchises earlier this month.
