Chetan Sakariya is a classic example of rags to riches via the IPL. The left-arm pacer was picked for Rs 1.2 crore by the Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2021 auction in February.

However, the 23-year-old is not wasting his well-deserved money anywhere recklessly. Indeed, he has put up the money for the medical treatment of his father, who unfortunately has contracted the  covid-19.

Chetan Sakariya, who picked 7 wickets in 7 matches at a decent economy of 8.22 for the Royals, comes from a poor background and is grateful for the partial money he has received from the franchise.

“I was lucky because I had received my part payment from Rajasthan Royals a few days ago. I straight away transferred money back home, and that is helping my family the most in my toughest time,” Chetan Sakariya was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

The youngster has had a few tough emotional months recently: he had lost his brother prior to the IPL, and now his father has been tested positive for covid-19. Chetan Sakariya says he is the sole earning member of his family and the money he earns from cricket will help his family, thus he is hoping for the IPL 2021 to resume soon.

“People are saying stop IPL. I want to tell them something, I am the only bread earner in my family. Cricket is the only source of my earnings. I can give better treatment to my father because of the money I earned from IPL.

“Had this tournament not happened for a month, it would have been tougher for me. I come from a poor family, my father all his life drove tempo and because of IPL my whole life was about to change.

“I am the only member in my community who has earned so much. My mother doesn’t know how many zeros are there in crores. Our first priority is to see my father back and then build that home. For that, IPL should happen,” Chetan Sakariya, the Saurashtra seamer stated.
