Sri Lanka had already lost the series in the first couple of ODIs, and it was believed that Dasun Shanaka, who was given the captaincy ahead of the series from Kusal Perera, was taking some tips from the Indian legend.
Now, a report in the morning.lk has revealed what went on between the young captain and the experienced coach. The report stated that Dravid was praising Dasun Shanaka for leading the side well amid the difficult times of Sri Lankan cricket.
“You are leading the side very well. The entire team is praiseworthy,” Dravid told the Sri Lankan skipper as per a report in themorning.lk.
“Dravid had told Shanaka that India had been ‘surprised’ by the much-improved Sri Lanka side while also conceding that they were outplayed on Tuesday in the second ODI, which Sri Lanka lost after a close fight,” the report added.

The second ODI was a close match where India were struggling at 193/7 in their chase of 276. However, bowling all-rounders Deepak Chahar (69 off 82) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19 off 28) saw India cross the finishing line to take the series home.
Sri Lanka made a comeback with a consolation win in the third ODI – but gained vital points for the World Cup Super League.
But the joy of that win for Dasun Shanaka’s side in the third ODI, which came when India had fielded five debutants, was washed soon as India returned to winning ways in the first T20I on Sunday. Shikhar Dhawan’s team won the match by 38 runs after putting 164 on the board.
