India and Australia will be facing each other on Monday (June 23) in the crucial Super 8 game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Both teams are in a very different situation right now. With two wins in two Super 8 games, India are all but assured of a place in the semifinal. Even if they lose against Australia, they are likely to go through if the defeat is not very heavy.

On the other hand, Australia's chance of making it to the semifinal is now hanging by a thread after they suffered a shock loss against Afghanistan on Monday (June 23). A win for Australia and Afghanistan in their final Super 8 games will see them and India finish with the same number of points. In this case, the net run rate will decide their fate. As of now, India and Australia have better net run rates than Afghanistan.

What if India vs Australia game is washed out?

While so much is at stake in the forthcoming India vs Australia game, rain could play spoilsport during the match. The match is scheduled to be played at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. As per the weather forecast, the conditions will remain overcast and rain could interrupt the game.

As per the forecast, the chances of rain will be around 51 percent at 10:00 AM local time, which is just about half an hour before the start of play. So, what will happen if the game between India and Australia is indeed washed out? In the case of a washout, both teams will share one point each.

As a result, India will be through to the semifinals while Australia could be dumped out of the tournament if Afghanistan manage to beat Bangladesh. A washout means India and Australia will finish with 5 and 3 points respectively. On the other hand, Afghanistan could take their points tally to 4 if they manage to beat Bangladesh.

If the game is washed out, Australia can reach the semifinals only if Bangladesh beat Afghanistan. The reigning ODI and Test world champions will be desperately hoping that rain stays away and they get the chance to bounce back after the disastrous defeat against Afghanistan.
