Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3. However, rain could play spoilsport, with a light drizzle predicted in the evening. Here's who will clinch the title if the match gets washed out.

Punjab Kings secured their place in the final by defeating Mumbai in Qualifier 2 at the same venue on Sunday. The match was delayed due to rain, which began shortly after the toss. Notably, the game started nearly two hours later, at 9:45 PM. There was no reserve day for the Qualifier 2 match.

During match hours, the city is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with a 15% chance of rain. The temperature is predicted to range between 27°C and 33°C, with winds blowing at 16 km/h and humidity levels around 45%.

According to AccuWeather, the chance of rain exceeds 50% in the afternoon, but conditions are expected to improve by evening. However, a 33% cloud cover will keep both teams cautious about potential weather interruptions.

What Happens If the IPL 2025 Final Is Washed Out Due to Rain?

The IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings has a contingency plan in place in case rain disrupts play. Organizers have allocated a reserve day—Wednesday, June 4—should weather interfere on the original match day.

An additional 120 minutes of extra time is available on both match days before overs start getting deducted. Play must begin by 9:30 PM IST for a full 20-overs-a-side match. If delays continue, the match can still go ahead as a minimum five-overs-a-side contest, with the cut-off time set at 11:56 PM IST.

If rain washes out the final on both the scheduled day and the reserve day, the IPL title will be awarded to the team that finished higher in the league stage standings. In this scenario, Punjab Kings would be crowned champions.

IPL 2025: What Happens If Rain Washes Out Both Match Day and Reserve Day?

If the IPL 2025 final ends without a result on both the scheduled day and the reserve day, Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer, will be declared champions. They topped the league stage standings with 19 points.

"16.11.1 - The relevant teams shall compete in a Super Over and, if necessary, further Super Overs to determine which team is the winner of the match in question,” the playing condition law reads.

“16.11.2 - If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner as described in Appendix F then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular season, finished in the higher position in the League table (in accordance with clause 16.10) will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,” the playing condition law reads.
