Rahul Dravid’s tenure as a head coach was slated to get over after the ICC World Cup 2023. This gave the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) a real headache about who to rope in as the head coach of the team for the next few years.

There were various reports that suggested that BCCI approached Ashish Nehra to take up the T20I coaching. However, the former fast bowler wasn’t keen to take up the role and firmly rejected the offer. This raised quite a few eyebrows as to why the Gujarat Titans coach said no to the position.

Now the reason behind Ashish Nehra declining the role has finally been revealed. As per the reports in PTI, it is learned that the former fast bowler didn’t take up the post because of his commitments with the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Not only this but there were other reasons as well.

The reports added that Ashish Nehra had no interest in taking up the head coach role as he wanted to respect his contract with GT, which is till 2025. Apart from this, the former Indian pacer also didn’t want to leave his family as his children are young and he wants to be with them.

Ashish Nehra is looking for IPL coaching only, which is for only two and a half months. The reports also suggested that the former fast bowler would himself tell the board when they might consider being a white-ball coach of the national team.

Ashish Nehra impressed many with his coaching stint in IPL for Gujarat Titans. Under him team won the tournament in IPL 2022 and also finished as runner-ups I’m 2023. With Hardik Pandya also leaving the franchise, he will have to play a huge role now for the forthcoming seasons of the league.
