Star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has made history during the ongoing first Test match against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Rishabh Pant joined the elite list of Australia's Alex Carey and the West Indies' Joshua Da Silva by becoming the third wicketkeeper in the world.
Rishabh Pant nearly didn’t play for the Indian team for two years due to a severe car accident in 2022. The left-handed batter made his comeback during the home Test series against Bangladesh, where India secured a 2-0 win. He showcased his impressive form leading up to the Australia Test series.
Rishabh Pant Becomes Third Wicketkeeper in World to Reach This Milestone
Pant took three catches behind the stumps during Australia's first innings. The 27-year-old cricketer completed Mitchell Starc’s catch off Harshit Rana to bring an end to Australia’s first innings. Starc was the highest scorer for the home team, who were bowled out for 104 runs, with 26 runs off 112 deliveries.
After completing Mitchell Starc's catch, Pant became the third wicketkeeper in World Test Championship history to complete 100 dismissals. The Indian cricketer has recorded 83 catches and 17 stumpings in 30 matches in the history of the World Test Championship.
The Australian wicketkeeper leads the list with 125 catches and 12 stumpings in 33 matches, followed by Joshua Da Silva with 103 catches and 5 stumpings. Pant can add a few more dismissals in the second innings, but he is unlikely to move up the list of wicketkeepers.
