Rishabh Pant fractured his foot in the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England in Manchester. Rishabh Pant sustained an injury on Day 1 when he tried a reverse sweep against England bowler Chris Woakes, and the ball hit his foot.
Despite the pain, Pant showed great courage by coming back to bat on Day 2. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter smashed a brilliant fifty and played his role in India drawing the fourth Test against England at Manchester. However, he was ruled out of the fifth and final Test at The Oval.
Rishabh Pant escapes surgery after foot fracture
Later, a Times of India report claimed that “Pant won’t require surgery,” but he has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks, which means the Indian wicketkeeper-batter will miss the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 and possibly the two-match Test series against the West Indies at home.
Now, a fresh report has emerged on the left-handed batter’s recovery. A RevSportz journalist, Rohit Juglan, revealed that Rishabh Pant’s recovery is showing positive signs as the plaster on his injury has been removed. While he still has heavy bandaging on his feet, his healing process is going well.

Rishabh Pant makes progress in recovery, but Asia Cup 2025 participation still uncertain
However, India’s Test vice-captain’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 remains uncertain as he continues to work on regaining full fitness. He is yet to begin his rehab, so there are very slim chances of attaining full fitness for the upcoming continental tournament.
The journalist claimed in a video on his YouTube channel, “Rishabh Pant is recovering really well, and the plaster was also removed. However, he has a heavy tapping on his feet, but that was not like a plaster. But he is not certain for the Asia Cup 2025.”

Shivam Dube to face Asia Cup 2025 snub
On the other hand, Shivam Dube’s chances of making it to the Asia Cup 2025 squad are also very slim, as Indian selectors are expected to look at someone following the Chennai Super Kings all-rounder’s ordinary IPL 2025 season.
The journalist revealed, “He’s unlikely to be picked for the Asia Cup 2025.”
Shivam Dube last played a T20I game for India earlier this year, in February against England. The all-rounder has only 531 runs and 13 wickets to his name in 35 T20Is for India. In the IPL 2025, the CSK star could manage only 357 runs in 14 matches, while the team didn’t use his pace bowling.
India set to announce Asia Cup 2025 squad by August 20-21
It is also being said that the Indian selectors will pick the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 on either August 20 or 21, as several players are yet to undergo their fitness tests at the NCA in Bengaluru. India will kick off their campaign on September 10 against the UAE in Dubai.
Notably, the Asia Cup has been played since 1983, and the tournament (both in T20I and ODI format) is organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). It brings together the top cricket teams from Asia every two years to compete for the championship of the continent.
