Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria recently picked Rohit Sharma's successor as Team India Test captain in the future. Danish Kaneria said that wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant could be a strong candidate to replace Rohit Sharma as India's Test captain, given his leadership potential.

Rohit announced his T20I retirement after guiding the India team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

However, he remains the skipper of India in ODIs and Tests. BCCI secretary Jay Shah also confirmed that Rohit will lead the team in the Champions Trophy 2025 and WTC final.

Rishabh Pant Will Be A Good Guy - Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria said that Rishabh Pant would be a strong candidate to succeed Rohit Sharma. Kaneria said that Pant is a sensible wicketkeeper who actively engages with bowlers. The former cricketer believes Pant's leadership makes him a suitable choice for the role of captain.

“Kaptaani ke liye material jo hai, main samajhta hu Rishabh Pant will be a good guy. Wo Test Cricket ke ek behatreen khiladi hain. Jis tarah se wo test cricket khelte hai. I think he will be a good candidate for a captain," said Kaneria to IANS.

(I believe Rishabh Pant will be a good choice for captain. Firstly, he is a sensible wicketkeeper. He is an excellent player in Test cricket. The way he plays Test cricket, his nature, and how he interacts with the bowlers, I think he will be a good candidate for captain).

Rishabh Pant has shown strong potential as a captain. The left-handed batter currently leads the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. However, he hasn't secured an IPL title as captain. Notably, Pant has experience leading the Indian cricket team in T20Is, with two wins and two losses.

Pant had been absent from Test cricket since December 2022 due to injuries from a serious car accident. He made a strong comeback in the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The southpaw scored a remarkable century in the second of India's 280-run victory.

Rishabh batted at No. 5 and showed no signs of being away from the game. He started well but fell victim to a careless shot in his first innings. The left-handed batter showcased an aggressive style and solid technique. He scored 109 runs off 128 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and four sixes.

The 26-year-old cricketer has played 34 Test matches for India. He has amassed 2,419 runs at an average of 44.79, which includes six centuries and 11 half-centuries.

Notably, he has scored Test hundreds in both England and Australia. His performance will be crucial for India’s chances in the upcoming Test series against New Zealand at home and Australia away during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
