India National Cricket Team Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant has shared an emotional post on his official social media handles following the loss of his side in the Test series against the South Africa National Cricket Team.
Rishabh Pant issued an apology to the fans for the poor performance of the team and assured them that the India National Cricket Team will bounce back strong from the setback.
South Africa humiliate India in the Test series
India were an absolutely dominant force in Test cricket at home for over a decade, and they remained undefeatable for a long time. Teams were scared to tour India for the red-ball games, as most of the time, they faced crushing losses against the hosts.
In the 2012-23 period, India lost a total of 5 Test matches, maintaining a dominant home record, and didn't lose any series. However, in 2024, New Zealand whitewashed India 3-0, which was the first such instance in Test history.
India then lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia away from home, but showcased a brilliant performance in the five-match Test series in England, levelling the series 2-2.
It looked like things were going in the right direction for India, but they suffered a humiliating 0-2 clean sweep at the hands of the South Africa National Cricket Team. In the first Test in Kolkata, Temba Bavuma-led side beat India by 30 runs, and in the second, they registered a 408-run victory.
There is no shying away from the fact that we didn't play good enough cricket - Rishabh Pant
India suffered a massive blow during the Test series, as in the first game itself at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, captain Shubman Gill went down with a neck injury, and captaincy responsibility fell on vice-captain Rishabh Pant.
Pant took over the leadership for the remainder of the Kolkata Test and the second Test match in Guwahati as well, but was unable to bring results in India's favor.
This defeat has hurt Rishabh Pant badly as he took to X to admit that they didn't play good cricket. He stated:
"There is no shying away from the fact that we didn't play good enough cricket over the last two weeks. As a team and as individuals, we always want to perform at the highest level and bring smiles to billions of Indians."
Sorry we couldn't live up to expectations - Rishabh Pant
Pant said "sorry" to the fans for India not performing as expected and said that the team is capable of delivering big, assuring everyone of the future success. He stated:
"Sorry we couldn't live up to expectations this time, but sport teaches you to learn, adapt and grow - both as a team and as individuals.
"Representing India is the greatest honour of our lives. We know what this team is capable of and we will work hard, regroup, refocus and reset to come back stronger and better as a team & individuals. Thank you for your unwavering support and love! Jai Hind. #RP17."
