Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Zaheer Khan has categorically denied that the pressure of being the most expensive player in IPL history is the reason behind Rishabh Pant’s struggles with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025. He praised Rishabh Pant’s captaincy and said that he has full confidence that the skipper will soon deliver with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Zaheer said that Pant has been making smart decisions as captain, but just needs a few good knocks to turn his form around in the tournament. So far in the ongoing IPL 2025, Pant has amassed only 110 runs in 10 games, with his 63 against Chennai Super Kings being the only highlight.
Rishabh Pant's struggles with the bat continue in IPL 2025
In the LSG’s latest match against the Mumbai Indians, Pant, who was signed by the franchise for a whopping INR 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year, was dismissed by Will Jacks for just four runs while attempting a risky reverse sweep at the Wankhede Stadium on April 27.

The middle order was dependent on the left-handed batter, but he yet again flopped as LSG suffered a massive 54-run loss to Mumbai Indians in the 45th IPL 2025 clash on Sunday. With this loss, Lucknow Super Giants slipped to the sixth position, while MI jumped to the second spot in the points table.

After the match, Zaheer said that Pant is ticking all the right boxes as a captain, and he is confident he will find his form at the right time in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Zaheer Khan said after the match, “I wouldn't relate it (INR27 crore price tag) to anything like that. He is a leader, and he has been fantastic as a leader; that's something that I can vouch for. The kind of efforts he has been taking to make sure that each and every individual in that group is comfortable and is heard (out), and the planning for everything that goes on in IPL has been spot on.”
The LSG mentor further added, “As a leader, he is ticking all the boxes. As a batter, the middle order is dependent on Rishabh, and I am very confident that the impact that we want from him will come. It's just about something clicking.”

Zaheer also insisted that Rishabh Pant’s expensive price tag isn’t adding any extra pressure on him. He added, “I wouldn't relate it to pressure. You have seen that he is the kind of personality… What happened in the last game is something that is gone by, and what's going to happen, he is a very optimistic and positive personality, so from our side, it's just about continuing with that.”
At the end, Zaheer made it clear that Rishabh Pant will continue to lead LSG and remains a key part of their plans. He stressed that the ups and downs in form are part of the game, and the team is backing Pant to find his rhythm with the bat as the tournament heads into the final stage.
He signed off by saying, “We've identified Rishabh as that leader who is going to take this team forward, so there is no doubt about that.”
