Riyan Parag Hits Second Fastest Hundred In Ranji Trophy History After Follow-on Against Chhattisgarh

Young Assam batter Riyan Parag has made history in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Chhattisgarh. Riyan Parag recorded the second-fastest century in the history of the domestic red-ball tournament, showcasing an impressive performance with the bat.

Riyan Parag played a captain’s knock to save the Assam team in their first game of the season in the Ranji Trophy against Chhattisgarh in Raipur. After following on, Assam was bowled out for 254 runs in their second innings on the fourth day of the ongoing match.

Riyan Parag Smashes Second Fastest Hundred In Ranji Trophy

Riyan Parag, who is in brilliant form this season, came to the crease with his team at 2-78. Assam lost the third wicket in the form of Ghadigaonkar (16) at the same total. Parag didn’t receive much support from the other end, as the team lost wickets at regular intervals.

Parag reached his century in just 56 balls during Assam’s opening match. He scored 155 runs off 87 balls, featuring 11 fours and 12 sixes. Parag stands second in the list, with Rishabh Pant holding the record for the fastest century in 48 balls during the 2016-17 season.

Parag achieved his second century in first-class cricket, marking his highest score in this format. The 22-year-old amassed a total of 1,583 runs, with an average over 33 in red-ball cricket. Additionally, the all-rounder has smashed 10 half-centuries in just 26 matches.

Parag has displayed his all-round capabilities, claiming 49 wickets at an average of 36.73, including a single five-wicket haul. he has yet to receive a maiden call-up from the national team, despite his impressive performances in domestic cricket over the past few years.

Assam Fail To Impress In Season’s First Match vs Chhattisgarh

Earlier, Chhattisgarh managed to score 327 runs in their first innings of the match. In response, Assam struggled and was bowled out for 159. Denish Das (52) contributed a half-century, and Akash Sengupta added 22 runs. Sourabh Majumdar took five wickets for 41 runs.

With the follow-on enforced, Riyan Parag played a pivotal role in guiding Assam’s second innings to take a lead. The Northeast team secured an 86-run lead after two innings with the bat. In the second innings, Assam’s last seven batters failed to reach the double-digit mark.

Riyan Parag To Represent Rajasthan Royals In IPL 2024 Season

Riyan Parag faced challenges during the IPL 2023 season, managing only 78 runs in seven innings with an average of 13.00 for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Despite his lackluster performance, the 2008 IPL champions decided to retain him for the upcoming season.
