Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag hopes to knock on India’s chief selectors’ doors with his performance in IPL. Riyan Parag is of the promising all-rounders in the Indian domestic circuit and has shown flashes of brilliance in the cash-rich league as well. The spin-bowling all-rounder hopes to stake a claim in the national team through his display in the IPL.
Riyan Parag first played in the IPL in 2019 when he played a few cameos for the Rajasthan Royals. The Assam-born cricketer finished the 2019 edition with 160 runs from seven matches at 32, keeping a strike rate of 126.98. However, Parag’s performances with the bat have dipped in the last two seasons, managing 154 runs in 2020 and 2021 so far. With his bowling, he has taken three wickets.
Riyan Parag reckons that the first half of IPL 2021 was decent for him; however, he regrets not winning more matches for the Royals. But the 21-year old remains confident of his abilities and believes intense training should do wonders for him in the UAE. Parag also hopes that the IPL would be a stepping stone for him to international cricket.
“I think the first half of the IPL was decent for me, but I could’ve done better in terms of winning more matches for the Royals. But I’m not going to be too harsh on myself, because I believe in my abilities and through rigorous training, I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to make a difference in the UAE. The tournament also presents me with a chance to perform to the best of my abilities and make a case for the senior national team,” Parag stated as quoted by ANI News.
I believe we can improve a lot in various departments: Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag underlined that Rajasthan Royals could improve in several departments and feels they have a good combination. The youngster remains positive about the franchise’s chances of winning the title this year.
“I believe we can improve a lot in various departments and with a good team balance and combination on and off the field, I think we’ll have a really good shot of qualifying for the playoffs first and then of course, winning the title,” he added.
