A dramatic yet surprising moment between two former teammates, Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson, went viral from the IPL 2026 clash between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati.

Riya Parag’s intense and aggressive reaction was seen as a direct mocking of his former Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, who joined Chennai Super Kings in a high-profile trade deal before the start of the ongoing season. In exchange, RR got Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.

The incident happened on the final ball of the 11th over during the Royals’ successful chase of 128 against the five-time champions. Noor Ahmad bowled on the leg stump, and Parag pulled out a perfectly timed reverse hit that flew effortlessly over deep extra cover for a massive six.

Right after the ball sailed into the stands, the RR captain turned around, lifted his arms, and flexed his biceps with intensity. The cameras caught him mimicking Samson’s famous muscle-flex celebration right on the face of the CSK wicketkeeper in Guwahati.

It almost looked like the local poster boy was sending a message to the Kerala star, who was seemingly not happy with the intensity with which the RR skipper was doing at that moment.

Tension peaks as Parag does Samson’s signature celebration

This wasn’t the first time Parag did it in the same match. During CSK’s innings, when Samson was bowled for only 6 by Nandre Burger, the RR captain once again showed the same “biceps pose.”

As the CSK wicketkeeper-batter walked off, visibly frustrated, Parag watched him with an intense look and celebrated aggressively. However, the Assam star’s muscle-flexing was not fully displayed. Parag’s gestures gained more attention because they are Samson’s signature style.

The right-handed batter usually performs this gesture whenever he achieves a milestone, using it as a reminder of self-belief and strength. So, when Parag did it thrice, once after RR crushed CSK, and that too right in front of Samson, it looked like he was mocking his former skipper.

Riyan Parag’s master trap for Sanju Samson

Meanwhile, Riyan Parag opened up about his clever master plan against Samson during the IPL 2026 clash. He watched his former teammate’s first few balls closely and realized exactly how to trap him before he got comfortable, as he knew his style, having bowled at him at the nets.

Even the boundary Samson hit was part of the setup, as Parag wanted him to go for that risky shot. With the field placed perfectly, Burger stuck to his plan and bowled out Samson perfectly.

Parag said at the post-match presentation, “I feel for Sanju bhai; it was the first three balls or first four balls that we wanted to execute something. That kind of went well, so we went ahead with it. And we were just trying to target where he plays his first three balls or where he plays his first four to five balls and then just set fielders accordingly and ask him to hit a better shot or hit a different shot, which is, again, a gamble sort of, but then that gives us a lot of percentage of favors in our way.”
