Young Assam batter Riyan Parag made history during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2023, registering his seventh consecutive half-century. Riyan Parag played a crucial role in Assam’s eight-wicket victory over Bengal in the second pre-quarterfinal of the SMAT 2023.

Parag has displayed outstanding form in the ongoing SMAT 2023. The right-handed batter is the leading run-getter in the Indian domestic T20 tournament. He scored 490 runs in eight innings at an impressive average of 122.50 and an outstanding strike rate of 189.19.

Riyan Parag Archives Massive Milestone In T20 Cricket

The 21-year-old achieved the record for most consecutive 50+ scores in T20s, surpassing legendary opener Virender Sehwag’s record. Sehwag had scored five consecutive half-centuries while representing the Delhi Daredevils in the 2012 Indian Premier League (IPL).

The middle-order batter scored 45 runs in his first match of the tournament against Odisha. He followed it up with impressive scores of 61 against Bihar, 76 against Services, 53 against Sikkim, 76 against Chandigarh, 72 against Himachal, 57 against Kerala, and 50 against Bengal.

Parag Guides Assam To Semi-Finals In SMAT 2023

Bengal chose to bat first in the second pre-quarterfinal, posting a score of 138/8 within 20 overs. Karan Lal emerged as the top scorer for Bengal, contributing 24 runs from 20 balls. Akash Sengupta played a key role with the ball for the Assam team, taking three wickets.

Assam comfortably chased down the target in just 17.5 overs with eight wickets to spare. Parag scored an unbeaten 50 from 31 balls, including two boundaries and four sixes. Bishal Roy scored an unbeaten 45 runs. Assam’s victory secured their spot in the semi-finals.

Parag’s Impressive Statistics In T20 Format

Riyan Parag scored 2023 runs in 96 T20 matches at a decent average of 30.65 and a strike rate of 142.76. He has recorded 18 half-centuries, with his highest score being 77 not out. Additionally, he also contributed as a part-time spinner, taking 41 wickets in T20 matches.

Parag has been less impressive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). He has accumulated 600 runs in 54 matches with an average of 16.22 and a strike rate of 123.97. He has secured four wickets with an economy rate of 10.70.
