West Indies Legends are still searching for their first victory in the Road Safety World Series as Sri Lanka Legends beat them by 5 wickets on Saturday (6th March) night.

Sri Lanka Legends captain Tillakaratne Dilshan chose to field first after winning the toss. While West Indies Legends scored 157/4 (20 overs) in the first innings, Sri Lankan side chased down that target in 19 overs after losing 5 wickets.

2nd innings (Sri Lanka Legends): Tillakaratne Dilshan scored 47; Upul Tharanga scored 53 not out

Openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya provided a good start with the 45 runs partnership before breaking their partnership in the last over of the powerplay. Sulieman Benn dismissed Jayasuriya for 12 runs.

Then skipper Dilshan and wicket-keeper batsman Upul Tharanga set the 47 runs partnership for the second wicket. Benn once again broke that partnership by taking the wicket of Dilshan, who scored 47 off 37 balls (8 fours).

Chamara Silva then quickly scored 22 off 15 balls (2 fours and only six) before Ryan Austin dismissed him. Then in the 18th over, Tino Best took the back-to-back wickets of Chinthaka Jayasinghe (7) and Ajantha Mendis (0), but Upul Tharanga’s unbeaten half-century secured Sri Lanka Legends’ victory. Tharanga remained not out of 53 runs off 35 balls (8 fours).

1st innings (West Indies Legends): Brian Lara scored a half-century

Both the Caribbean openers Narsingh Deonarine (2) and William Perkins (19) lost their wickets early as both were run-out. But then the West Indies Legends captain Brian Lara and Dwayne Smith handled the situation very well and put the 66 runs partnership for the third wicket.

After scoring 47 runs off 27 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes, Smith lost his wicket as Chinthaka Jayasinghe brought that breakthrough in his only over of the match. Soon, Sri Lanka Legends captain Tillakaratne Dilshan took the wicket of Mahendra Nagamootoo (9).

However, Lara continued his batting and finished that innings on 53 not out off 49 balls (8 fours).
