Veteran opener Robin Uthappa has targeted a return to Team India squad through a great performance in the IPL 2020. Uthappa has been a regular in the IPL. He had been an integral part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but this season will see him in new hue as he will be playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Uthappa is excited to play under the captaincy of Steve Smith and believes that the former Australia captain has improved a lot since 2013. He personally feels that if he has a great IPL season he could be back in reckoning for India. The Karnataka batsman was a part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup triumph.
“I certainly believe that if we have a great season in the IPL, wonderful things could happen to me and even bring me back into the reckoning for the Indian team,” Uthappa had earlier said.
“I have played with Steve [Smith] back in Pune Warriors India from 2011 to 13. But having seen the growth that he has made from that time, I am truly looking forward to interacting with him and learning from him in the time that we will be playing together this year,” the Karnataka batsman added.
Uthappa made his last international appearance in 2015. He has scored around an average of 25 in the limited-overs format. He will look to add solidity to the Rajasthan Royals batting line-up with his experience in the lucrative tournament.
The Jaipur franchise will heavily rely on their overseas players – Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer — in the IPL 2020.
Apart from the overseas stars, Rajasthan Royals also have young talents in form of Samson, Riyan Parag and Shreyas Gopal, who have proved their potential in the shortest format of the game.
