Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa shared his thoughts on young West Indies cricketers training at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Academy, starting on December 1. Robin Uthappa, who had criticized CSK for allowing Rachin Ravindra, stated that he is not opposed to young cricketers gaining experience.

Earlier this month, Uthappa criticized Chennai Super Kings for allowing Rachin Ravindra to train at their academy in Chennai before the Test series against India. Ravindra had visited the CSK academy to acclimatize to Indian conditions before their one-off Test against Afghanistan in Greater Noida.

Rachin Ravindra Played Crucial Role in New Zealand's 3-0 Win in India

Ravindra scored an impressive 134 runs in the first innings and an unbeaten 39* in the second innings of the first Test match in Bengaluru. He earned the Player of the Match award, as he helped New Zealand secure their first Test win in India in 36 years. He credited his training in Chennai for the success.

The left-handed batter finished as New Zealand's top run-scorer in the series, amassing 256 runs in three Test matches at an average of 51.20. It's worth mentioning that New Zealand whitewashed India 3-0 in the series. This loss dented the Indian cricket team's chances of reaching the WTC 2025 final.

CWI to Send Seven Youngsters to Train at Chennai Super Kings Academy

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a development program to send seven young cricketers to the Chennai Super Kings Academy for a specialized training camp. The camp will help the players enhance their skills with intensive training in India. This training will take place between December 1 and 14.

Franchise players Kirk McKenzie, Matthew Nandu, and Kevin Wickham, along with Teddy Bishop, Jewel Andrew, Jordan Johnson, and Ackeem Auguste, have been selected for the specialized training camp. These young players have impressed with their performances in regional and age-group cricket.

I'm Not Against This Completely - Robin Uthappa

On Thursday, November 28, Robin Uthappa stated that he backs players getting exposure but added that it should not happen right before a home series. Robin Uthappa emphasized that the training camp will give players a chance to gain experience in foreign conditions for future growth.

“I’d love to know and understand what the general consensus is about this from the people. See I don’t mind this if it’s being paid for by the WI board or whoever is sending em. There has be some form of exchange where both parties benefit from this,” Robin Uthappa wrote on social media platform X.

“I’m not against this completely. I believe people should improve and do everything to do so. For instance in this case I support it. Youngsters should be given the opportunity to have exposure to what they could possibly experience in a foreign country in the future," he added.

“My only point of contention is that such preparation camps should be avoided for any international cricketer just before a home series. That all! I rest my case,” Robin Uthappa further remarked.
