Rohan Jaitley re-elected as DDCA president; beats Kirti Azad in dominant fashion

Rohan Jaitley, son of former Union Minister late Arun Jaitley, has been re-elected as president of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) for a second consecutive term. Rohan Jaitley defeated former India cricketer and Trinamool Congress leader Kirti Azad in the election to continue into his second term.

Arun Jaitley served as Delhi District Cricket Association president for 14 years. Rohan has continued his father's legacy. Under Rohan's leadership, Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium hosted five World Cup matches in 2023. During his campaign, Kirti Azad alleged corruption within the DDCA regarding BCCI funds.

Rohan Jaitley Defeats Kirti Azad to Secure Second Term as DDCA President

According to an Indian Express report, the 35-year-old Jaitley secured 1,577 votes out of the total 2,413 votes, while Kirti Azad received 777 votes, as revealed during the counting on Tuesday, December 17. A total of 2,413 votes were cast, with 1,207 votes needed to win and become DDCA president.

Rohan Jaitley was first elected unopposed as the DDCA president in 2020 and was re-elected a year later, defeating advocate Vikas Singh. He will now complete his second term as the head of the state association. His father, the late Arun Jaitley, had served as DDCA president from 1999 to 2013.

Rohan Jaitley Camp Wins Key Positions in DDCA Elections

Members from Rohan Jaitley's camp secured several key positions in the DDCA elections. Shikha Kumar, daughter of former acting BCCI president CK Khanna, won the vice-president post with 1,246 votes by defeating Rakesh Kumar Bansal (536) and Sudhir Kumar Agarwal (498).

Ashok Sharma became secretary with 893 votes, while Harish Singla was elected treasurer with 1,328 votes. Amit Grover claimed the joint secretary position with 1,189 votes.

Several individuals won director positions, including Anand Verma (985 votes), Manjit Singh (1,050 votes), Navdeep M (1,034 votes), Shyam Sharma (1,165 votes), Tushar Saigal (926 votes), Vikas Katyal (1,054 votes), and Vikram Kohli (939 votes).

The Members Have Seen What We Have Done Over the Last Three Years - Rohan Jaitley

Rohan highlighted the positive work done over the past three years after his re-election. He emphasized that selective criticism aimed only at election campaigns does not reflect the true state of an organization.

“Right now, the members have seen what we have done over the last three years and it seems like they are going to give us another opportunity to serve them. Having selective criticism with only the intent of contesting elections doesn’t fly. Organisations don’t become good or bad within the preceding 30 days of an election,” Rohan told reporters.

Last week, Kirti Azad accused the current DDCA administration of corruption, alleging that only a small portion of the Rs 140 crore received from the BCCI last year was spent properly.

Azad claimed the DDCA spent Rs 17.5 crore on floodlights, whereas the larger Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad completed a similar project for Rs 7.5 crore. He also pointed out that the DDCA is installing eight lifts at a cost of Rs 19 crore.
