The usually composed Rohit Sharma lost his patience and cool, as the captain faced tough questions about his recent form and his future after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 ahead of the three-match ODI series opener against England in Nagpur.

Facing the media's relentless focus on his lack of runs in recent months, Rohit seemed visibly aggressive at the pre-match press conference in Nagpur on Wednesday (February 6). The seasoned Indian opener’s outburst sent the entire press conference room into silence.

Rohit Sharma blasts media for questioning his recent form

As journalists asked him about his struggles with the bat and the pressure of returning to his most cherished format, the usually calm and composed Rohit Sharma showed a rare flash of frustration and aggression as he defended himself with a sharp statement.

The Indian skipper had a disappointing Test season last year, and even on his Ranji return, he failed to deliver. However, the right-hander has stressed that ODIs and Tests are different formats, and every player has his share of ups and downs, so he is just keen on a fresh start.

Rohit Sharma said at the pre-match press conference, as quoted by The Indian Express, “What kind of a question is that? This is a different format, a different time. As usual, as cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs, and I have faced a lot in my career, so this is nothing new to me. We know every day is a fresh day, every series is a fresh series.”

Rohit Sharma looks forward to starting the England ODI series on high

Rohit insisted that he is looking forward to the challenges ahead of him, not looking at what has happened in the past series. Notably, he had played only three ODIs last year and scored 150+, but his Test numbers are just miserable, scoring 619 runs at an average of 24.76 in 26 innings.

Overall, Rohit Sharma has scored 1154 runs in 28 matches, averaging 31.18, across all three formats of the game in 2024. The Indian skipper stressed, “There is no reason to look back too much. I must focus on what is coming up and what lies ahead for me. It is as simple as that. Look to try and start the series on a high.”

How is it relevant that I talk about my future plans: Rohit's fiery response to the media

The outburst didn’t stop there, as the Indian captain got angry and aggressive when he was asked about his future with the national team after the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting on February 19 in Karachi with the Men in Blue playing their games in Dubai, UAE.

Rohit Sharma seems to be fed up with the constant chatter about his future plans, as he shuts down his retirement plans by making it clear that he's not bothered about speculation and he is focusing on the upcoming ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

He signed off by saying, “How is it relevant that I talk about my future plans sitting here when there are three ODIs and a Champions Trophy coming up? Reports have been going around for a number of years, but I am not here to clarify those reports. For me, these three games and the Champions Trophy are very important, so my focus is on these games. We will see what happens afterwards.”
