Rohit Sharma Breaks Navjot Singh Sidhu's Record Of Most Sixes In A Test Match

It has been a scintillating Test match for Rohit Sharma at Visakhapatnam. The flamboyant batsman showed why he belongs to the opening slot in any format of the game. He smashed a beautiful 176 in the first innings and also carried his good form in second innings as well. During the course, he broke the record of Navjot Singh Sidhu of most sixes in a Test match.

Rohit Sharma breaks 25-year old record:

It was a great day at the office for Rohit Sharma, who showed his mettle to the team. The flamboyant batsman had a sensational time in the middle knocking runs for fun once he got settled in the crease. During the course, he became only opener from India to smash a century in all formats of the game. Now, he surpassed Navjot in most sixes in a single match by an Indian.

Rohit broke Sidhu’s 25-year-old record. The former India cricketer had hit eight sixes at Lucknow. Opening for the first time in Tests, Rohit slammed his fourth ton during the first innings at Visakhapatnam against the touring South African side. In the first innings, Rohit hit six sixes during his 176-run knock.

He achieved the feat when he slammed Dane Piedt’s delivery out of the park in the 20th over of the innings. This was his ninth six in the game. Sidhu had hit eight sixes against Sri Lanka in 1994. Mathew Hayden, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Ajinkya Rahane follow the two with seven sixes.

In the second innings, Rohit has already hit three sixes en route his 11th Test fifty. He also became the only cricketer to hit seven consecutive fifties at home in Tests. Rohit holds the record for hitting most sixes for India in a match (Tests, T20Is, ODIs). Apart from that, he now has most runs as a first-time opener in Tests.

So far, it has been brilliant for India in the ongoing Test match. The flamboyant batsman Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara are battling in the middle for the team with their brilliant fifties.
