Former India skipper Ravi Shastri wasn't happy with Rohit Sharma's captaincy on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. He said that the hosts were tactically not on the money as they didn't set a proper field early on the innings.

After a long time, the India National Cricket Team have been dominated at home. The New Zealand National Cricket Team have put the Rohit Sharma-led side under tremendous pressure. The Kiwis are now the strong favorites to win the second game of the series, underway at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

India National Cricket Team had a torrid outing with the bat and ball on Day 2. Coming into the second day of the game, there were strong favorites to go ahead, but the way New Zealand bowlers, in particular Mitchell Santner, bowled, he put the hosts on the backfoot and wrapped them up inside two sessions.

India, who lost Rohit Sharma for a duck at the end of Day 1, lost wickets in a flash on the next day. After a decent start by Shubman Gill (30) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (30), the hosts displayed a horrible batting effort and got all out for 156 runs, allowing New Zealand National Cricket to take a lead of over 100 runs.

India skipper Rohit Sharma was defensive right from the start with his field placements

With the ball turning sharply, it was expected that Indian spinners would wreak havoc across the New Zealand batters. But it wasn't the case as the visitors came up with another rollicking effort with the bat, putting the Indian team under massive pressure.

India skipper Rohit Sharma was defensive right from the start as he didn't keep the aggressive field for long. This allowed New Zealand batters to take singles and rotate the strike, allowing them to settle down extend the lead, and go past 300 runs on the board.

Also tells you, tactically how you should be thinking - Ravi Shastri and Murali Kartik's detailed discussion on Rohit's tactics

During the second session on Day 2, Ravi Shastri and former India spinner Murali Kartik had a detailed discussion on Rohit's tactics. Speaking on air, he explained:

"New Zealand has managed to scatter away all the men around the bat," Kartik pointed out.

Replying to this, Ravi Shastri pointed out that India should've thought of getting the opposition all out on 120. He slammed Rohit Sharma for not keeping an aggressive field, saying that it even sends a negative message to the bowlers. He elaborated:

"Also tells you, tactically how you should be thinking. India should be thinking about how to bowl out New Zealand for 120. For that to happen, you need to think wickets, you need people in attacking positions.

"Yes, if the side gets to 60 for no loss, you can start to think differently. It also makes the bowl think that he wants wickets, not with a spread-out field like this,"

The New Zealand National Cricket Team are in the driver's seat in the ongoing game. They look clear favorites to win the game as after bundling out India National Cricket Team for 156 runs, they have now taken a massive lead of over 300 runs and would be hoping to take it over 400.
