While Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the India vs Afghanistan ODI series because of a hamstring injury, tension remains over Rohit Sharma's availability for the 3-match ODI series.

During the IPL 2026 season, Sharma also suffered from a hamstring injury, which has made him unsure for the upcoming ODI series. As per the latest updates, the experienced opener could receive clearance to take part in the One-Day International series against Afghanistan, which will start on June 13.

Rohit will have to go through a few sessions before joining the team

According to the report, Rohit Sharma is supposed to report to the board's Center of Excellence on June 8, and he will have to spend three days there for a few sessions before joining the team for the ODI series. He is expected to link up with the team a couple of days before the first match of the series.

“Yes, Rohit is supposed to report to the CoE on June 8. He should be there for three days and has a few sessions lined up, including batting under lights on one ground. He will then join the Indian team in Dharamshala on June 11, two days ahead of the first ODI against Afghanistan on June 13,” a source informed the media house.

The first match of the ODI series will be held on June 13 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, followed by the second match on June 17. The third and final match of the bilateral series will be on June 20.

Virat Kohli ruled out of the IND vs AFG series entirely

It is learnt that Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the series entirely because of a hamstring injury he received during the IPL 2026 final. According to the report, the batter has consulted with a renowned orthopaedic surgeon at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai regarding the injury.

Virat Kohli has a tear in his hamstring and will have to spend six weeks out of action. The injury is not minor, but he needs no surgery for recovery.

"He has a hamstring tear. The injury won't require surgery. It will take about six weeks of healing time, which will also involve rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru," a source close to the development informed TOI.

"He tele-consulted renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwalla (at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai), who reviewed his MRI scans," mentioned further.
