Mumbai openers laid the foundation for a big total

After Hardik Pandya won the toss and announced that Mumbai Indians will be batting first, Rohit struggled with his rhythm and was also lucky to be dropped twice inside the first three overs. The India superstar then went on to grab the opportunity with both hands and completed a brilliant fifty.

During the course of his knock, Rohit also created history by hitting his 300th six in the IPL. He reached the milestone in the 9th over when he hit Rashid Khan for a six. With the same shot, Rohit Sharma also completed 7000 runs in the IPL and became only the second player after Virat Kohli to achieve the feat.

Rohit is now only behind Chris Gayle in the list of most sixes hit by a batsman in the IPL. Gayle hit a staggering 357 sixes in 142 games during his illustrious career. Gayle and Rohit are followed by Kohli who has hit 291 sixes so far.

Most sixes in IPL:

  • Chris Gayle - 357
  • Rohit Sharma - 300
  • Virat Kohli - 291
  • MS Dhoni - 264
  • AB de Villiers - 251

Rohit Sharma leads the charge:

Rohit led the charge with the bat for Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator. The former Mumbai Indians skipper scored 81 runs off 50 balls before being dismissed by Prasidh Krishna. His brilliant knock was studded with 9 fours and 4 sixes.

Rohit has led the foundation for a big total and the onus will now be on the middle-order batsmen to take Mumbai Indians to a big total. Talking about the game, Mumbai Indians were on 195/4 in the 18th over at the time of writing this report. Naman Dhir and captain Hardik Pandya were batting in the middle for the five-time IPL champions.
